About Us
Founded in 2003 as the private music teaching studio of Steinway Artist Susan Merdinger, Sheridan Music Studio evolved to become in 2012 an independent record label and the not-for-profit music organization representing the creative vision of Founder and Artistic Director, Steinway Artist, Susan Merdinger.
In 2019, Susan joined with her friend and colleague, Dr. Svetlana Belsky to establish a studio and performance venue at the Fine Arts Building of Chicago, taking Sheridan Music Studio one step further by establishing a location in downtown Chicago. On the ninth floor of FAB, the studio features breathtaking unobstructed views of Lake Michigan and Buckingham Fountain, and will now offer private piano instruction, Public Master Classes and Workshops, a new concert series "Music With A View" and a Two Piano Festival. It will also be the home of the new Video Podcast Series "Steinway Sundays with Susan and Svetlana".
Back in 2017, Susan and Svetlana had decided together that a collaborative effort to build Sheridan Music Studio into an independent Artists Agency and Record Label serving musicians beyond our immediate circle of friends might fill a void in the Classical Music Management field and also satisfy our non-musical artistic and creative urges. The idea is that musicians need to make commercial, professional recordings in order to be recognized and create a lasting legacy. They also need to take these recordings and go on tour to promote them. So the two marketing and promotional endeavors of performing and recording would be best covered by the same agency and representatives.
And who better to represent musicians than musicians themselves? Building upon our collective networks of professional colleagues, social media contacts, and music presenting organizations and venues, we have created a new, more comprehensive business model for managing musical artists’ careers- while keeping costs down and maximizing efficiency, and combining it with our passion for teaching, mentoring and performance.
We strive to include on our roster classical music performing artists, recording artists of different genres of music, composers, and interdisciplinary artists who work with musicians.
Through our professional association with Airbnb Experiences and TripAdvisor Experiences, Sheridan Music Studio House Concerts and Music with A View are now active offerings on International platforms, enabling travelers and local residents to come and experience our music and musicians "live" in the comfort, intimacy and beauty of the Sheridan Music Studios.
We also offer private instruction for Strings and Voice, offered by distinguished artists such as Sarah Greene, Viola and Violin; Professor Vadim Mazo, Violin and Viola; Nazar Dzhuryn, cello; Stefanie Greene, Soprano and Emily Birsan, Soprano, and Rosa Salinas, piano.
We are proud to have our own Composer-in-Residence, the Grammy-nominated Composer, Ilya Levinson, who has been commissioned to compose several works for Pianissimo!, Sheridan Solisti and the CSO's Tononi Ensemble, and has dedicated them to us. The 2020-2021 season will feature at least one new work by Professor Levinson in the Music with a View Concert Series!
The Audio-Video engineers with whom we work in the studio are Edward Ingold and Gregory Levinson. Ed Ingold has a wealth of experience recording for professionals and students alike, following a long career as an engineer at Abbott Labs. Gregory Levinson, with a degree in Recording Engineering from Columbia College, is also an accomplished violinist and comes from a professional music family. Dr. Belsky is an accomplished audio-video-editing engineer, also available for editing recorded projects.
Scott Greene, with newly minted degrees in Music Technology and Clarinet Performance, and a wealth of professional experience as a Music Producer ( Megaphonix), joined on in June 2018 to completely run the Audio Recording and Engineering Department, in addition to taking on students of clarinet, music theory and electronic music production and composition, but now lives in Los Angeles and functions in an advisory role and for online instruction only.
